Who we are:

Dr. Ian G. Melhado, C.E.O

With a PhD in experimental medicine and immunology, Ian is our resident expert in the health benefits of breast-feeding. He is also my husband, the business mind to our venture, the one who encouraged me to stop complaining about all the bad bras and to realize that I could design my own. He designed our company website, did all the paperwork, incorporated the company and took care of our son while I got things rolling on the sales and distribution end. Whenever I was tired from too much feeding, or sore, or thinking of giving up – he supported me and nurtured me. It made me realize that I could continue to support and nurture our son.

A teacher and corporate trainer, turned Mom and new businesswoman. If you’d told me on New Year’s Eve 2001 that I would be pregnant within 24 hours, I’d have laughed and suggested you not drive home! Here I am, 2 years later, with an amazing husband and a magical son. If you’d told me on Sept 30, 2001, overwhelmed by an emergency C-section and my first 3 breastfeeding blisters, that I would enjoy nursing so much that I would continue to do it for another 23 months, I’d have been far less polite… Ian and I think of our son as our tour-guide. He is showing us a new world, and is taking us on a special adventure. I think he is the one who is most responsible for this new product.

During our prenatal classes, we were asked who was going to be in the birthing room with us. I replied: “My husband and my mother-in-law”. You can only imagine the gasps and shock that ensued. I gather that very few moms-to-be are keen on having in-laws involved in the process. However, Ian’s mother has been a maternity nurse for over 40 years, a midwife and is perhaps the world’s best example of motherhood. In spite of a difficult battle with cancer, she has been our steadfast advisor in the creation of this new bra. It helps to have such expertise in the family!

Laurie MacLachlan, V.P. Sales – North America

Laurie was Canada’s youngest female dive-master and is one of the top scuba instructors in Vancouver, B.C. She’s also Mom to Ashley, and a breastfeeding advocate herself. She is our incredible V.P of Sales for North America and brings a personal, honest and particularly “non-sales” approach to her work. Her dynamism and charisma make selling seem like fun – and she shows us the promise of bringing this exciting new product to market.
